Concerned for biker safety

To the editor:

I have tried for several years to get the intersection of Rabbit Road and West Gulf improved for safety with trips in person and by phone with the City of Sanibel's Public Works Department. Here are the most glaring issues:

Traveling east on West Gulf heading towards Rabbit Road there is no signage indicating where the bike path entrance is. The result is lots of bikes from Mitchel's, home rentals and guests turning on Rabbit Road, which is quite narrow for bikes and trucks and cars to share.

There is nothing on the bike path from either direction approaching Rabbit Road on West Gulf that suggests the cyclist should slow down, or stop. No small stop sign, or anything on the bike path itself that says stop!

At least until some new asphalt laid down last year there was stop on the path at this intersection in faded white. I don't know how much longer we can rely on luck at this busy intersection.

PS: Totally un-related . . . Is it illegal to post gas prices at Sanibel Service stations?

Thanks for listening,
