Sanibel Skin Spa knows the art of healing. The spa, which is tucked away on Rabbit Road, places a large emphasis on massage and skin rejuvenation.

Joel Torres who owns the spa with his wife, Holly, has practiced Thai massage for the last 20 years. Torres learned in Thailand by boxing and also by training at the Swedish Institute in New York. According to Torres, Thai massage is the perfect remedy for aches, pains and ailments - Joel works with a chiropractor on island who sends his patients to him.

"It's great for soft tissue problems. There's northern and southern style Thai massage, I combine both," said Joel, co-owner of Sanibel Skin Spa.

Other benefits of Thai massage include increased flexibility, pain and stress reduction and increased blood circulation. Thai massage also works on opening up one's energy lines.

"They call it lazy man's yoga," Joel said.

The spa, which ranks No. 1 on Sanibel on Trip Advisor, has offered Thai massage since they opened three years ago. Previously, the couple designed, built and managed the Westhampton Day Spa in New York.

Sanibel Skin Spa also offers deep tissue massage, a warm river rock lymphatic drainage massage, their signature massage and a therapeutic Thai herbal compress massage which consists of warm compresses of essential oils like lemongrass and ginger.

"This massage goes deeper into the muscle," Joel said. "It's good for anyone with aches and pains, athletes and runners."

The massages, which last from 50 to 80 minutes, run from $110 to $170.

In addition to massages, the full-service spa offers body treatments, makeup, waxing, manicure and pedicures, dermaplaning, a spa boutique, couples packages, spa parties and packages, bridal primping, on location wedding services, teen spa treatments and facials.

New treatments at the spa include a canna-bliss massage, keep it calm facial, superfood facial treatment and the zen facial which happens to be their best-seller at the moment.

"The zen facial is like you went to Fiji. It's an out of body experience," said Holly Torres, co-owner of Sanibel Skin Spa. "It's a very healing, organic with the stones and the aromatherapy. I work with the pressure points all over the face to reduce lymphatic drainage."

Facials typically cost between $150-$200.

In her spa boutique, Holly offers her own skincare line that's developed in Texas - the line is similar to SkinCeuticals, minus the harsh chemicals. Holly's personal line focuses on rosacea, acne, anti-aging and brightening. She also offers a vitamin C and men's kit. A shea butter body line is also available.

In the future, Holly is hoping to launch an organic skincare line with CBD oil and she has plans of incorporating a salt room at the spa.
