Cape Coral man is facing an aggravated battery charge after police say he struck another bar patron with a glass, causing serious injury.

Tyler Allyn Kirwin, 24, of 2816 N.W. 18th Ave. was charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon following an incident at the Dek Bar at 4704 S.E .15th Ave. shortly before midnight Tuesday.

Kirwin and the man who was struck did not know each other, according to a release from the Cape Coral Police Department.

"Kirwin struck the victim with a bar glass that shattered upon impact," the release states. "The unprovoked attack caused lacerations to the victim's face and neck. Kirwin was restrained by the business staff at The Dek until Cape Coral Police arrived. The victim sustained serious injuries and was taken to a local hospital for treatment."

Kirwin was arrested, treated for minor injuries at a local hospital, and later transported to Lee County Jail, police said.

He remained in custody as of Wednesday morning.

The victim was not identified in the release.
